Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa – Salkantaypampa

Your journey begins with a 5:00 am pickup from your hotel in Cusco by a private guide, transporting you to the starting point at Soraypampa. After an included breakfast, the trek commences towards Humantay Lagoon (5,917 meters / 19,412 feet). Following the visit, you will proceed to your first campsite, Salkantaypampa, approximately 3 hours away at 4,100 meters, where you will camp for the night. Due to the high altitude, it will be cold, so wearing a hat and gloves before sleeping is recommended.

After breakfast, you’ll embark on a steep 2-hour ascent to the pass, where you’ll capture photos of the Salkantay mountain before descending to your campsite for lunch. You will spend the second night at Ichupata or Pampajaponesa (4,250 meters) and enjoy stargazing if the weather permits.

Following breakfast, the trek continues to the Inca Chiriasca Pass (Paso Inca Congelado, 5,028 meters / 16,495 feet) before descending to the small community of Canal Inca (3,800 meters / 12,467 feet) for overnight camping. Today’s views include snow-covered mountains, mountain lakes, and diverse wildlife such as viscachas and white-tailed deer.

This day includes visiting Paucarcancha, and upon reaching Wayllabamba (3,800 meters / 12,460 feet), porters will take over carrying the equipment, as mules are not allowed on the Inca Trail.

Today is more challenging with a 2-3 hour ascent to Warmiwañusca Pass (4,200 meters / 13,835 feet), the highest point of the Inca Trail. After capturing panoramic mountain views, you’ll descend to Pacaymayo (3,600 meters) for lunch and some optional exploration if not too tired.

After an early breakfast, you’ll hike over the second Inca pass, Runcu Raccay (4,000 meters), visiting archaeological sites along the way. The day includes stunning views of the Sacred Valley and visits to important Inca sites like Runcu Raccay, Sayacmarca, Phuyupatamarca, and Wiñay Wayna (2,680 meters / 8,792 feet), where you’ll set up camp and enjoy a guided extended tour.
